COPY OF LETTER FROM THE COLONIAL SECRETARY, HONG KONG, TO CROWN AGENTS.

Gentlemen,
With reference to my letter of 12th March, 1935, and
subsequent correspondence on the subject of recruitment of
constables for this Colony, I am directed to inform you that a
further recruitment of nine (9) European constables is required
and to request that you will make arrangements in sufficient
time to permit the selected candidates to leave England in the
first or second week of December, 1935. They are required in
Hong Kong by the middle of January, 1936.
2. It is requested that a higher standard of education and
intelligence be demanded, special attention being paid to writing
dictation, simple mathematics and common sense. After education
it is requested that preference be given to those men who can
produce proof that they are good at games especially association
football, hockey and cricket.
